(It's best to screw them gently to the end and then back it off a half or 1/4 turn, so they don't stick and jam when you take them off. Watch out the Phillips screw heads are made of cheap\soft metal and seem to want to slip and strip the screw head easily. It's a awkward cooler to install, you must hold it flat and start one screw with a few threads and then push down and start the one on the diagonal without crossthreading it. I found i needed a really long Phillips bit or screwdriver.
CAREFUL cause the backplate will be springy and only held on by 2 screws at one end. A trick that worked for some older cases that doesn't have the cutout is to only take one bracket off at a time and carefully start the standoffs then tighten them. Make sure they are fairly tight when your all done do a final tightening so they don't spin when you install or remove the cpu cooler mounting screws. Mostly you need to keep the backplate from falling off and to hold it there when you put the CM standoffs in. Most cases have a cutout so you can get at the backplate. I never installed my AMD cooler, it's still new in the box. You remove the plastic parts and install CM's screw standoffs with your existing backplate. Yes there sits my blue Gigabyte AMD mounting pieces. That means you're throttling during most compiling, encoding, decompression and some gaming scenarios.I went and had a look in my parts bin. It took less than 30 secs sustained load for it to throttle at stock settings. while waiting for my NH-D15 to arrive I was running the Hyper 212 EVO from my old computer on my new 9900k. You'll never get full performance out of a 9900k with your Hyper 212 EVO. You need to dissipate around 200W of heat if you're running at 4.6 Ghz and your cooler has a TDP of 150W.
You'll be throttling in any stress test with a Hyper 212 EVO on a 9900k.
Nice and quiet and good enough for me! The black looks nice had the RGB fan hooked to my ASUS mobo rolls slowly through the colors.A Noctua NH-D15 on a 9900k maxes out in the 70's degrees with no OC. With a i9-9900K and a 4.6GHz OC, I can run the fan at low speeds and have the temp max out at around 70C.
